David Kalungi

Middle-class, 10 Years

Kalungi was born deaf, he lives with his grandmother. Kalungi was living on the streets where a well-wisher picked him up and brought him to school (our school) seeking for support of Kalungi. As a school, we accepted announcing and looking for his parents until we landed on his grandmother who lives at Ssenyange.

Jimmy Mutebi

Primary Five, 13 Years

Jimmy lives with his mother. His father died when he was a very small boy. When the father died, his mother together with his other siblings was chased out of their family home by his father’s family members. They now live in a small rented room in a village about 25kms from Masaka town.

The school has been taking care of Jimmy’s education at a cost and general welfare ever since he joined the school.

  • Good in the vocational skills training program and really good in cookery and baking.

Manuella Nalwanga

Primary Four, 12 Years

Manuella lives with her mother who is living with HIV/AIDS. Manuella’s Father is alive but his whereabouts are not known since in their lineage they don’t produce deaf children.

The mother’s health is not that well but we always encourage her to continue taking her medicine.

Pamella Nakanwagi

Primary Three, 11 Years

Pamella was born hearing but at the age of 4 years, she lost her sense of hearing. Her mother explained that the hearing loss was a result of the very severe malaria fever she suffered from and the strong medication they were giving her.

She lives with both her parents who describe themselves as peasant subsistence farmers who cannot pay school fees for the child.

  • She likes sports and drama and participates very actively in all the schools’ extracurricular activities.

Shabirah Nalule

Top Class, 8 Years

Shabirah was born deaf. She lives with both her parents who are very loving and caring. The father was very active in paying her school fees and requirements but due to covid, he lost his job which made him not able to afford the school dues.

However, he can provide the requirements and the mother is a housewife.

Nakintu Kawuma

Baby Class, 9 Years

She was born deaf. Kawuma lives with a grandmother who is a peasant farmer after being dumped by her parents. After the grandmother realized that Kawuma was deaf she came and approached the school administration for help and support ever since the school is taking care of her, however, the grandmother brings a few requirements and she lives in a rented house.

SUCCESS STORY

  • Kawuma is so friendly.
  • Kawuma participates in school activities like music and drama.
